Verse of the Day
1Corinthians 15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
Commentary
I was notified last night that my dad passed away. He died very peacefully in his sleep. My mother was with him holding his hand. The viewing will be Sunday with the funeral Monday. I have great peace about all of this. The miraculous events of the last week will forever be with me. I have already been invited to a local nursing home to share this testimony.
What is so wonderful is that I do not have to preach but just share the testimony of my dad. This will lead people to salvation in the Blessed Redeemer. I hope this testimony brings great glory and fruit to the Lord Jesus. After what I witnessed, my faith is now 10 times stronger.

(Dad with my dog in his assisted living center. He just loved dogs. When I look at this picture, it is hard to believe that he was 93)
My dad is a living legend amongst people that know him. I shared some of this in my last post. He was knocked down so many times in life, but he never stayed down. With great determination, he always bounced right back.
He had a terrible back operation in the late 1960s and suffered awful pain for years. I watched tears like a garden hose pour from his eyes as he tried to walk with the intense pain. He refused pain killers and kept walking until the pain left. When my knees were injured and I had that terrible pain, my dad's example and the Lord got me through it without pain killers. I would like to give you one story of just how unusual was my dad. There are many other examples!
He was 75 and I visited him. My mother said, "did you hear about your father being arrested"? I was shocked and said "no". I asked him if he had been arrested, and he held his head low and said "yes". My mother then explained what happened. Dad went into a store to get something. There was a man smoking and blowing smoke into dad's face. Dad asked him to stop. The man then inhaled deeply and blew all the smoke directly into dad's face. This was the wrong thing to do.
Dad proceeded to hit him and with one shot knocked him out! The state police were called. After a while, mom went in to find him, and there was dad sitting handcuffed on a chair with the police holding his driver's license. The police were laughing and shaking their heads.
On the other side of the room, a young man was sitting on a chair. The police showed him my dad's drivers license, and he began to shake his head from side to side. The police came back and let my dad go. The reason was the young man was 25, and he was too embarrassed to go to court and have to admit a 75 year old beat him up!
As I was thinking about my dad and his incredible strength, endurance and will, I realized that this is exactly what I wanted spiritually. What my dad had in the physical realm, I wanted in the spiritual realm for the Lord. To fight for the Lord Jesus and His kingdom with everything I had to the end. To give NO quarter to devil. A fight to the finish until the Lord comes for His church. Dad never ever gave up to the end, and that is exactly what I want to do for the Lord Jesus. The Lord went all the way for us, when He went to the cross, so how could we do less for Him!
I will greatly miss my dad, but I am not going to look back. I will look forward to the Blessed Hope and the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, when I will be reunited with him.
The way dad and I greeted was "hand's up" in a fighting stance. I guess that was the Irish in us. When I left him for the last time, we were "hands up," and he was saying "Jesus is my Savior". This is the way I will remember him.
May the Holy God of Israel bless and protect you.

Indeed it is a blessing to know one's parent is with Jesus and that there will be a wonderful reunion to come.

Peace and comfort in our precious, faithful Jesus to you and your family, Brother John. What a blaze of glory hit your dad prior to his departure! What a blessing for your dad and for you! What a Savior! With sincere compassion, Mrs CJB
John,
Your Dad had a long life. I'm glad he got saved. Look forward to meeting him someday. You have my sympathy.
Thank you for the wonderful testimony of your father! I lost my father when I was 17 years old and have always seen him as a model of strength and resolve in my own life. What a gift our Heavenly Father gave you!
Brother John...what a testimony! Praise God for giving you the gift of knowing your dad received Jesus salvation...and all of heaven is rejoicing. It is a sad time when our love one passes...we miss them so much. Thank you for sharing the love of a son and father. Be blessed in Jesus name with His peace, love, and joy.
My sympathy goes out to you and your family. But so glad for you all that you KNOW that your Dad is in Heaven -"Safe in the arms of Jesus". Praise the LORD!
A beautiful testimony about your Dad. Mine went home to the Lord @ age 74 seven years ago and I still miss him so very much. And like you, I am looking forward to the Blessed Hope; being with my friends, family, and especially my Dad. May our LORD comfort you and your family in your separation from your Dad.
Praise God indeed - my prayers have been bombarding Heaven since your blog post - Baruch atah Adonai Eloheinu malekh ha olam
What a blessing you have received. You had your Dad for a long time and when you were recently with him you learned that he did believe in Christ as his savior. You will see him again and he may be the first to greet you in heaven with a loud shout of "Johnny". Avinu shebashamayin, yitkadesh shimkhah.
Your Testimony brought tears to my eyes today, and it has such a victorious end/beginning for you and your dad! I lost both of my parents by the time I was 27 yrs, they are in heaven too. My daughter was killed in a car accident in 1998. I'm looking forward to seeing her again too. The Lord showed me that they aren't behind us, they are in front of us, we are traveling closer to them with each day on this earth. And of course it won't be much longer, I pray you and your family have great peace brought through our comfortor, the Holy Spirt.
John, I was sorry to hear of your Dad's passing but what a wonderful testimony! I know that you and your family will treasure these last few days for the rest of your life. May God comfort you and give you peace.
Loved the stories of your dad and family, such a privilage to share this time with you. Praise God.
Yup, your dad was part of that can-do generation, I think alot of that was lost starting sometime during the boomer generation. My dad is in his 80's but but is very stubborn about meeting the Lord, not sure about my mom either, some prayer and wisdom in this area will be appreciated. I remember my grandparents and the connection going back generations and some of the stories they told me when I was a boy of how things were and how they survived and thrived in eras like the depression and WW2.
I'm sorry for you loss, but what joy it will be to see your dad again at the Marriage Supper!
Dear Dr. John,
Thank you so much for your wonderful testimony about your Dad and the miraculous way he was saved!!I had a great laugh through the story you posted about him socking the young fellow who blew smoke in his face. Were my Dad alive today he and your father could have swapped some stories I tell you!! My father was the same type of man as your Dad.He died in 1971 whe I was only 13 yrs old at 54 yrs old..way too soon. My only regret is that I could not tell him about Jesus. God bless you John and your family and I will be praying for you all. I look forward to the day we will all meet in "Beulah Land"
Brother John glad to hear that your Dad has gone to be with the Lord , but I am sorry for your loss. I will keep you and your family in my prayers in the coming week. May God Bless you and your family. Mart Blackwood
What a beautiful testimony your dad has left us, Dr. John. I praise the Lord for allowing me to hear about the many amazing ways God moved in his life and yours.
A story like your father's life testimony is truly a "HIMpossible" one and I pray that the peace that Jesus gave you in your heart will linger on until the day you will be reunited with your dad in heaven. God bless you always for all that you do.
Brother John, May the Lord give you strength for the weekend, and safe travel. Your testimony is a beautiful example of the mystery of God's love.
Thanks for sharing this precious testimony, John. I am deeply blessed by your attitude, love and faith. May the joy of the Lord increase greatly in your life.
John,
Ecclesiastes 7:1
A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.
Psalm 116:15
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
Look forward to meeting you and your Dad soon...cuz He is coming for us soon!

Dear John,
My husband and I have been praying for your dad's salvation. While we are sorry that you have "lost" your dad for a short period of time, we are glad that he found salvation in the Lord Jesus before his death.
What a story! It also builds our faith in praying for our unsaved relatives.
God bless you and your family.
p.s. your grandbaby is such a cutie.

My condolences. Thanks for sharing your story. Glad to hear he got saved.
God is so wonderful.
He took the sting of death away for you at this time of temporary loss.
Your dad's funeral will be a celebration of life here and ever lasting. Your story makes me cry tears of joy and assurance of God's love. bj
John, it's with joy in my heart but also sorrow over you dad passing into Glory. I pray the peace of God rest upon you and your family at this time. Thank you for allowing us to partake of such a wonderful and personal testimony concerning your dad. God Bless you. <3
Wow John, what a testimony! I think that my faith has increased 100x's just by reading what happened to your Dad! God is SO good! He knows that we love our families. I hope people can see by this story that serving other gods is futile. There is only One God. He is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and only He can give Eternal Life to those who come to Him with a repentant heart. Its a waste of a lifetime to serve other gods. There is only One. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Our God is the true God, only He has Eternal Life and that life is in His Son.
I bet your Dad is so happy right now, realising that he made the right decision just in time, and the peace you have now that you know he's in, can never be taken away from you.
I could fill up pages praising our God, for how good he is to all of his children. We are all so blessed to be His. Thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ for making our salvation possible, all glory goes to Him. May His name be praised, honored, blessed and exalted forever!
John, you are our prayers! The LORD's tender mercies never cease to amaze me. This was the very thing that happened to my maternal grandfather who also passed in his 90s. He was so hardened by rejection as a child and many of the setbacks life had for him that he had no place in his heart for Christ. Many would witness to him with seemingly no avail. Eventually, the family set to prayer as his death seemed imminent. He called my dad one day wanting to talk and my dad led him to Christ. Like your dad, the change was so wonderful! Within the week he passed.
Our LORD is ever merciful and always seeking you! If you don't know Him, you will find that he is waiting for you with open arms! Call on Jesus today!
I have read all your comments and am so blessed. I received an email from Germany about someone who listened to last night radio show when I gave my testimony and confessed the Lord Jesus as her Savior!
Look at the fruit already!
God bless ALL of you.
John Patrick McTernan lol
John,
It is so precious to see the blessings of the Lord upon you and how he uses you for his glory!
Will keep you in prayer as always especially through the next few days.
The program was a blessing last night, may many more hearts be blessed into His kingdom where ever you speak!
Wow! God is just so awesome! I'm sorry about the passing of your father, but so glad he realized he needed a Savior! Great testimony, praying for your family's salvation now, & for your continued strength, & for your mom. Many blessings to you. Your testimony enriches our faith.
John, what an amazing story! What a gift to know that your Dad has accepted Jesus!!
I have been following your blog for approximately 1 ½ years. Appreciate the time and energy you have committed to this mission.
I would say God bless you but, as we all know, He just has :)
Amen,
Joe
John, my condolense on your dads passing. Gotta admit, from the pics, your dad looked better than most guys in their mid 60's!
Awesome miracle Dr. John. So happy in my heart that your father is in Glory now! Praise God for that! You will see him again! You are in my thoughts and prayers! So sorry for the loss of your father. God bless you sir!!!
John,
How wonderful our Lord is. Thank you so much for sharing all that God has done in your Dad's life in these painful days. They are important details for God's people to be reminded about, bringing clarity and visions of His wonderful lovingkindnesses that He pours out on all who come to Him.
" I will mention the loving-kindnesses of the LORD, and the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD hath bestowed on us...." Isaiah 63:7
May God be praised!
